June 2004 - (Crocodiles, Thailand), (Euro
2004 Portugal) & Plymouth, England
After leaving Korea, we stopped off in Thailand
for one week, in order to unwind after 2 years of working
in Seoul. With £2 one hour Thai and Swedish massages,
£1 cocktails and food to satisfy any palate, it
was a good start to June. Whilst in Bangkok we also decided
to visit a crocodile farm. Below left and right are pictures
from the farm. There were hundreds of this lovely, pre-historic
creatures. Just beautiful, with their rough skin and sizeable
jaws.

Soon after Thailand and a brief visit to England
(to visit Butlins holiday camp), we headed straight
for Lisbon, Portugal. With tickets
for three games, we headed into the heart of the action.
The first game we saw was the England v Croatia game.
In the build up to the game, the England fans took
over the centre of Lisbon, with the England supporters
band playing in the centre and the fans hanging the
St .George's cross anywhere they could find space.
We also attended the England v Portugal game
(also meeting up with our friend Richard from
Dublin) and the Germany v Czech game. Below Germany
game is shown below as the players sing the national
anthems.
Lisbon is a beautiful city and in between games we
games we took in some of the city. Below (left)is
the Castelo de Sao Jorge on the hills
of Lisbon. Below (right) is next to Fan Park, the
Expo area where they showed the games on large screen
TV's, for those without tickets for the stadiums.
You can see me (Paul) stood in the very bottom left
of the picture.
Notice the scoreboard in the picture below,
England 4 Croatia 2. This is the game before we were
dumped out of the competition against Portugal, a game
I also had the pleasure to attend. It's difficult on
the heart being in the stadium for a knock out game
which goes to penalties as in the Portugal game. Penalties
are a cruel but exciting way to decide a game.
Trudging back through Lisbon after the loss, whilst
the Portuguese fans continuously sound their horns and
even meet up in petrol stations as they celebrated was
not so much fun. The whole experience as a whole though,
was fantastic.
Before
Portugal, we spent five days in Devon and Somerset,
England. Below left, a picture of the
Valeria in Dunster Castle, Somerset. Below
right, a picture of Valeria in Plymouth,
England as she (despite being Italian) whole heartedly
gets behind England for the France game.
And finally for this month,
a few pictures we took of the 'Torre de Belem',
a tower overlooking the harbour in Lisbon. Next month
we will show pictures from our wedding, which took place
a few days ago at the beginning of July. We'll also
be in Spain, Holland and France if anyone is around
and wants to meet up. cheers.
