December 2007 to March 2008 - Bristol & London, England

The last few months saw two visits from the Sicilian side of the family to England. Valeria’s mother visited us for Christmas and this was her mother's first visit to England for 35 years, having last visited in the early 1970s on honeymoon. Over Christmas we took her mother for tour of Bath, including to the Roman Baths and to a local traditional pub for the unbeatable Sunday Roast dinner. Trying to satisfy an Italian with English food turned out not to be any problem and the Sunday Roast and Cornish pasties seeming to do the job. Below a picture of Valeria with her mum and then a picture of Valeria’s mother outside a church in Bath.

For those of you who have never been to the South-West of England, the Roman Baths in the town of Bath are certainly worth a visit. Below you can see me (Paul) looking over into the natural baths and, on the right, our friend Chris 'The Penguin' McCormack, who we saw in the pub during a night out he had with his rugby mates, who were all also dressed as penguins for their Christmas night out.

In March 2008, Valeria’s brother 'Marco' came to England for the first time. He spent a couple of days in London, during which we joined him and went with him to see a couple of tourist attractions in London, including Hyde Park. Below Marco and Valeria in Hyde Park and, on the right, a photo of Wellington Arch by Hyde Park Corner.

Marco came to England primarily to visit the 'La Dolce Vita' exhibition at the Olympia exhibition centre in London. Marco was also joined by Natascha (Valeria’s father business partner). The exhibition focused on Italian made products and services and this was not wasted on Valeria, who spent plenty of money buying a couple of handbags made of Italian leather. Below, a stall with Italian products, such as sun dried tomatoes, pesto, chilli pepper sauce and below right, from the left, Natascha, Marco and Valeria.

After going to the Italian Exhibition and going around London we went to a pub in Earls Court, where we met our friends Louise and Ciaran. We knew both Louise and Ciaran from our times in Dublin, Ireland and they both live in London now.

And finally for this month, Valeria as she gets in some final driving lessons, but this time using our own car.
