October - December 2009 - (Morocco and Cardiff, UK)

We ended 2009 with a trip to Morocco, where we spent New Year in Kenitra with friends. While in the UK it was freezing cold, it was lovely and warm in Morocco. Below Valeria and I on Kenitra Beach.

A trip to Morocco almost has to include a trip to a local market, trying some cous cous and going for a camel ride. Rather than do the camel ride though I was happy to volunteer Valeria to try it whilst I took the pictures :)

Below we are still in Morocco. A brand new café overlooking a lake in Kenitra (left) and the Medina in Fez on the right. The sunsets can be quite beautiful in Morocco and many parts of Africa and the markets are often vibrant and very colourful.

The medina (old part of the city centre) in the city of Fez is a maze of alleys lined with little shops and stalls. There you can find everything, from spices and food to leather, jewellery, clothes and various handicrafts. Some are really genuine and nice Moroccan handicrafts, other are fake cheap items made in China, so you have to be careful to spot a good deal. Also, as it is custom to negotiate in Morocco, every purchase can be a laborious ordeal but worth it if you are patient enough.

In the UK, 2010 started with extremely cold weather and the highest amount of snow recorded here in the last 30 years. Below Paul on the deck by the back garden of our house in Cardiff as he braves the cold and creates an art masterpiece with the snow (right) - the world's smallest snowman.

Finally, at the beginning of 2010, we were supposed to fly to Prague for a weekend but our flight from Bristol airport was cancelled because of the snow. So, Valeria and I ended up spending a weekend in the Holiday Inn Bristol airport rather than Prague. Oh well :)

On the right, our friend Cattie, a cat who seems to have adopted us for day time visits and to hang out in the house, despite having owners across the road. She hates cold weather and snow and loves nothing more than to sleep and eat (much like Valeria).
