June to August 2006
Bristol and Weymouth, England

June 2006 was dominated by the World Cup and this was followed by the warmest summer on record in July, In England. The world may become messed up in fifty years time from global warming, but people seemed happy this July as they basked in the heat. The first two pictures below, we took on Bristol Waterfront as we celebrated my (Paul) passing his driving test. Fancy dress is very popular in England, with people dressing up whenever they have the chance: probably more so than in any country we have visited.

June/July 2006 for Valeria and Italy turned out to be a great year with Italy winning the World Cup, after a 24 year wait. The picture below (left) shows Park Street, a street near where we live in Bristol, taken over by exuberant Italians as they celebrate winning the WC. Valeria being married to an Englishman and as a member of the official England Supporters Club, followed both Italy and England. Below right, a picture of Valeria in her England top, during the England v Ecuador WC game.

'Somerset House' , a pub in the affluent area of Clifton, Bristol, is shown below painted with the English St.George's cross, during the World Cup, whilst on the right, a picture of myself (Paul) and Maurizio, an Italian guy Valeria and I met during the World Cup , and whom we have been friends with since.

June 2006 was also a time which saw the visit of Mr Hayden Bland, one of the best friends we met during our time in Seoul, Korea. Below left a picture as we sit in a pub near to Clifton Suspension Bridge, Bristol. From left to right (Karina, Jackie, Julia - 3 Ofsted work colleagues of Valeria’s), Hayden, Paul and Valeria. Also below, a picture from our visit to the seaside town of Weymouth.

Below, Valeria nervously climbs the steep stairs inside 'Smeatons Tower' a lighthouse on Plymouth Hoe. Very close to Plymouth Hoe, in an area called the Barbican, a typical English Tea Room is also shown.

Living in Bristol, stranded away from the sea, Valeria looks completely at home below, as she enjoys the sea air and sea view on a trip to Plymouth, England.

Below two funny pictures taken during the World Cup pub celebrations: Paul dancing (unbelievable but true) with his mates Gurpal and Chris and Valeria experimenting with a glass of cider.
